ADVENTURES OF ROD BOY aka The Adventure of Denchu Kozo (1987) English Subtitled. From the creator of Tetsuo: The Iron Man. An amazing romp
through Sci-Fi 8mm film. This film is a video game come to
life. An excellent paced oddity. quality rating B+
THE BEASTS (1980) In Cantonese w/ English Subtitles. This brutal version of The Last House on the Left brings together Hong Kong cinema and classic American horror. A group of teenagers on a camping trip meet up with a group of backwoods degenerates who rape one of the girls and impale one of the guys on bamboo spikes. One of the locals fingers the gang who then take revenge on the guy by getting him drunk and burying him in a shallow grave. Another guy finds him and takes violent revenge on each of these drooling idiots. This is grim and bloody stuff but frenetic enough to pinpoint this as a Hong Kong film. quality rating B
THE DEVIL (1981) English Language. A hideous witch casts spells on her victims that turns their insides into snakes and worms. It's gore you want to see and its gore that you get--and it's some of the messiest ever to ooze across the screen. There are several scenes of ascending repulsiveness in which a victim flails on the ground as (real) worms, maggots, centipedes, eels, slime, blood and pus erupt from their mouths and skin. It's even more disgusting than it sounds. But the strangest thing about this movie is how light and cheery it is between the puking scenes. People laugh, ride through the park, go to the movies together, and there's an obnoxiously spunky little bellboy named Ding Dong. quality rating B-
DEVIL FETUS (1985) English Subtitles. Zombie cakes filled with worms is the order of the day in this filthy horror flick from Hong Kong. When a woman buys a jade idol at an auction the demon inside of it is set free and man is he horny. In between getting it on with our heroine in a slime-filled bed, the demon starts possessing her, her friends and even her dog. Fun old school HK knock off of Possession with some decent bloodletting and bad acting. quality rating C+
FEMALE NINJA MAGIC CHRONICLES 3 English Subtitled. This wild ride stars ninja chicks that have more than swords and throwing stars; watch them shoot acid milk from their dirty pillows, and see giant prison bubbles appear from the oddest place. An odd camp romp; must be seen to be believed. quality rating B+
FRANKENSTEIN ANIME This animated Japanese version of Frankenstein is for the fan of the story and vintage anime like Astro Boy and Vampire Hunter D. Of course the sense of magic and violence is enhanced in this version of Shelly's lost monster. quality rating A
JAPANESE SPIDER-MAN (1978) Japanese Language/ No English Subtitles. This is too funny for words. Spidey has his own ship he calls from the sky and gets bashed around alot by giant monsters. quality rating A
THE KILLING OF SATAN (1983) A Filipino-made horror/ fantasy flick. A man must battle through goof ball enemies until he gets to the Devil himself. This is one of those films that needs to be experienced because the cheese level will fulfill every desire. quality rating B+
MERCENARY CANNIBALS (1983) English Subtitles. Asian Vietnam war film with one of the funniest dubbing jobs since Zombie '90. It plays like an ApocalypseNow rip-off with loads of gore and violence. A group of commandos are sent to rescue some folks who were captured by cannibalistic soldiers. Very gory with stakes driven through heads, eye gouging, impalements, decapitations and more. quality rating B
PAGE OF MADNESS aka A Crazy Page Silent w/ Japanese inter titles. This is a Japanese horror film that possibly influenced the great masters of Japanese cinema. quality rating B
SEEDING OF A GHOST (1983) Chinese Language w/ English Subtitles. Good n' gory Shaw Brothers horror flick. When thugs rape a woman in the street, her boyfriend visits a sorcerer who casts a curse on everyone who came in contact with her on that night, and as it turns out that includes the boyfriend! Evil curses abound complete with worm vomiting, brain munching, face ripping, stomach explosions and more. Newly upgraded pirnt--excellent quality. quality rating B+ GET THIS TITLE presented with COLOR BOX ART here
STREETS OF SHAME (1956) Five prostitutes work at Dreamland, in Tokyo's Yoshiwara district. As the Diet considers a ban on prostitution, the women's daily dramas play out. Each has dreams and motivations. Hanae is married, her husband unemployed; they have a young child. Yumeko, a widow, uses her earnings to raise and support her son, who's now old enough to work and care for her. The aging Yorie has a man who wants to marry her. Yasumi saves money diligently to pay her debt and get out; she also has a suitor who wants to marry her, but she has other plans for him. Mickey seems the most devil-may-care, until her father comes from Kobe to bring her news of her family and ask her to come home.
WAR OF THE GARGANTUAS aka Frankenstein's Monsters: Sanda vs. Gaira (1966) English Subtitles/ Directed by Ishiro Honda. The good Gargantua escapes from the lab and hooks up with the bad Gargantua for a battle romp through Japan Toho style. quality rating A. GET THIS TITLE presented with COLOR BOX ART here
